From December painting and sources

12"x12", acrylic on canvas board

My mentor, Page Coleman, suggested that I try rendering the sticks -- trying to really get the shapes and closely investigate the colors. So, I worked on pulling out the thin branch in the center. I'm resisting making something recognizable. Still, this is a good exercise. I may even try a more representational series of sketches to see where that goes.

  1. Wow. Jill. The last meeting was the closest I feel that we got to understanding each other. I think our differences in opinion and practice came through in his mid-term review of me and I think Michael Newman may have contacted him. Something happened and our communication improved. We come from two very different places and in the end I think we understood that. Oh well. It is over now and I learned some very important things from our last meeting: #1 I want to work more with objects and I'm on the right track with the hankies etc #2 I need to contact an old prof of mine from undergrad to be my mentor next semester. We are on the same plane and I think it'll offer some "healing" from this semester. Thanks for all the encouragement!! You have been so helpful all semester :) I hope you are well and I look forward to seeing your stuff and talking with you in Jan!!
